Throughout the New Testament there are many verses which point to the pathway to a relationship with God.
The pathway in the book of Romans, which was written by Paul, is used here and the references below refer to that book and, for example, "3:10" refers Chapter 3 and Verse 10 as numbered in your New Testament New International Version.
God loves us and created us to be in a loving relationship with Him.
But all humankind are sinners, no-one is righteous as we are all guilty of breaking God’s law in some way and our sins separate us from God.
We need to be saved in order to restore our relationship with God
Romans 3:10 As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one”
Romans 3:19-20 ‘Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.”
We are not freed from accountability to God, or redeemed by, keeping laws, doing good works or by being good people but only through faith in Jesus Christ. There is hope in Jesus Christ
Romans 3:21-25 “But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished.”
Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
God will forgive, and unconditionally accept, those who believe in Jesus Christ
Romans 8:1-2 "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death"
If we place our trust in Jesus Christ, receive Him into our hearts and confess Him as Lord we will be saved from the result of our sins
Romans 10:9-10 “ If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”
Romans 10:13 “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
You can express your faith in Jesus Christ with a prayer. Something like this “Lord Jesus I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe that You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Saviour and live forever with You. Amen”
Romans 5:1-2 “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.”
